“To return after a hiatus of two years and three months and continue to keep silent, it’s causing more pain to the fans who have been cherishing and loving us. While we continue to wait for the return of the other three, the two of us will continue to protect TVXQ till the end.”
TVXQ has finally returned in a glamorous way after a hiatus of two years and three months. Yunho and Changmin have released a new album “Why (Keep Your Head Down)” under the name of TVXQ and have since begun their promotional activities. Both of them held an interview on the 11th at the ApGooJungDong’s EverySing outlet managed by SM.
Yunho mentioned that “[Now that the members have decreased from five to two, I was very nervous when I became more aware of our upcoming comeback. As I stood on stage, I began to understand that I was a singer, and tears just started to flow unknowingly. We’re very grateful to the fans who have been waiting for us; I was not in my best condition during last week’s performances, but I was energized after receiving such a warm response from the fans and audience. We will continue to maintain the characteristics of TVXQ; Changmin will continue to display his strength in the high notes, while I will focus on the bass and the overall performance, so that our voices will blend together more harmoniously. I was actually very worried if Changmin’s and my tone of voice, which are total contrast from one another, would be able to blend in perfectly, but the effects and the sounds produced so far have been satisfying.”
Changmin stated that “[Due to the adjustment of the members, there were changes that were made; in the past the both of us focused more on harmonizing, however, we have now produced a new style of performance by blending together the uniqueness of our voices respectively.”
As we talked about the reason behind performing “How Can I”, Yunho explained, “TVXQ has always been displaying an image of a dance group to everyone, but we wish to bring forth other different kinds of styles from henceforth.” With regards to the creative ideas within the new album, they said that “the creation of the music was a balance between integrating our respective personalities while trying hard to fill in the gaps of the other members, and even the dance itself had a lot of moves which showed off our masculinity.”
“TVXQ is a group that was groomed by SM, and no matter what the reason for leaving was, we will continue to wait until they have settled the issue with the firm and for their return.”
Changmin added, “I will definitely guard TVXQ. It’s just like how a group of migrating geese would maintain a formation because they do not want to see any of their own break away from the flock.”
When asked if the words like “breach of trust” and “regret” used in the new track “Why” was in reference to the other three members, Yunho emphasized that “if you listen to the track, one might feel like we’re expressing our own thoughts to ourselves, but each individual will have different understanding and perception to the song, and this track is solely about a man expressing his unforgettable emotions towards a woman whom he loved deeply. I’ve also considered before if we would be forgotten, having been absent for such a long period of time. There were friends whom we drifted away from, and while we should untie the knots within our hearts with one another, we were unable to as communication with the other party was remote, and it was very heart-wrenching for me given that I’ve been the leader since our debut. When I was depressed I would sometimes try to take the subway alone, and I’ve come to realize many things after much consideration. It’s akin to climbing a mountain; in order to reach the top, one has to undergo the process of numerous obstacles and challenges and I would reckon from a positive perspective that this is an important period for TVXQ as we continue to climb to the summit. In order to let everyone comprehend TVXQ’s music fully, and also to not let ourselves down, we will continue to put in all our effort and give our best.”
Changmin also stressed that “[Even though there are some who are pessimistic towards our future development, we will eliminate all these arguments by presenting our best on stage, one that is befitting of our strengths. What we need to do right now is to continue to gain the support of everyone, and I’m prepared to do so.”
