[FULL TRANS] 110726 Welcome Back JYJ! - AnAn Unreleased Exclusive Interview

(T/N: This interview took place during the 3hree Voices II DVD period. It has only been released now as an outside protective covering for newer AnAn editions.)

*Editor's Note*

The explosive popularity of five-member group Tohoshinki made a sweeping impact in the summer of 2009 when three members Jejung, Yuchun, and Junsu filed an exclusive contract lawsuit against their former management company, hence halting the activities of the five members. One and a half years later, the three members have faced a series of difficult challenges but has also started anew as JYJ.

Unable to perform in music programs in Korea, their activities in Japan are also relatively blank. Nevertheless, their released album has achieved shocking sales records and each individual member has been actively involved in drama and CF filming and musical schedules. Each receiving plenty of praise and recognition, they have been continually improving and showing results. Finally, the long-awaited private DVD of their lives will be released this month. Fying back to Japan for the photoshoot, they are welcomed with the passionate support of their fans.

Slowly finding their way while continuing to progress forward, are we able to interview the three members 'now'? The publisher's wishes have finally been granted by them. In order to meet JYJ for the filming of the DVD in Korea, we took off for Seoul! Word by word, phrase by phrase, we have a sincere exclusive interview. Displaying many different aspects of themselves in front of the camera, please look forward to it.

March. Seoul city. Gangnam.

—–'Welcome Back'. First of all, how does Jejung and Yuchun feel being back in Japan for a photoshoot after so long?

Yuchun: When I saw Haneda Airport, that was when it felt real. Didn't it change a lot? Seeing this made me think "Ah~ it's Japan". We went to a lot of places like Tokyo Tower, Odaiba and Meguro Gawa.
Jejung: Same with me, although we didn't go everyone together. There's also Shibuya! It's exactly the same with a lot of people! This time's theme was 'going to places filled with memories'.
Yuchun: For example, we went to Tokyo Tower for Tanabata before. That time we wrote the wishes we wanted to achieve on wood... ah~ or was bamboo?

—–Do you still remember what you wrote?

Yoochun: I don't remember (laughs).
Junsu: I remember! At that time I wrote, "I hope I can stand on a Japanese stage".
Yoochun: What? Wasn't it Tokyo Dome?

—–You obviously remember (laughs). It seems like Junsu will be filming later on. Have you decided on the place you're going to?

Junsu: Although I haven't decided yet, I was thinking of going to a spa.
Jejung: You're not working but going on a vacation huh? (laughs).
Junsu: Because~ thinking of Japanese memories, the spa is a must! When we were touring for our concert, the members went together.
Yuchun: Spa ah~ really nice. We didn't have enough time to go this time.
Junsu: Speaking of which, I didn't go anywhere else other than a spa. But I'm still being lectured by you two because I went!
Jejung: In the beginning we did discuss which places to go to, but in terms of memories, they're all similar. I've already gone to those places with Yuchun earlier, so Junsu doesn't really have any other choices.
Junsu: Where should I go?
Yuchun: How about FujiQ High Land?
Junsu: Oh~ that's good. There are memories there.
Yuchun: Dodonpa right?
(T/N: Guinness World Record - fastest roller coaster ride in the world @ FujiQ)
Junsu: It was even fun on the way there.
Jejung: But we most likely would go to places we've already been to.
Junsu: ...Yeah, even if it ends this way, we have no choice. But the most important thing is everyone being able to go to Japan.

—–Do you want to quickly return to Japan for a concert tour?

Yuchun: Hmm...Japan. It's already been six years.
Jejung: Yeah, it doesn't feel like overseas anymore. But it's been over half a year since last year's a-nation concert. Half a year is really long.
Junsu: It's long alright. For over five years we've been going back and forth between Korea and Japan. Then suddenly for half a year, we haven't come back once. This is a first.
Jejung: We've forgotten all our Japanese.

—–So you do forget?

Jejung: But once we start using it we remember again.
Junsu: Now, it's been a long time since we used Japanese.
Jejung: Going back to Japan, our Japanese has naturally become better. Yuchun was apparently with Korean staff but suddenly started speaking Japanese (laughs).
Yuchun: Because I always watch One Piece every week now.

—–Speaking of Japanese, Jejung sometimes tweets in Japanese, but you two don't seem to.

Yuchun: Junsu~ did you use Japanese?
Junsu: I can't type it out.
Yuchun: Me neither. I don't know how to. Because I only use my phone to go on twitter, I can't type in Japanese.
Junsu: A lot of Japanese fans would ask "Would Junsu look if we use Japanese?" I do read the comments, but I just can't write it. It's the system's fault.

—–During this half year, Japanese fans have been suffering from 'JYJ Deprivation'. Did you guys feel it in Korea?

Jejung: We felt it. It was pretty amazing. Whenever there's a concert or an event going on, everyone will fly here from Japan. There were also a lot of fans who flew from Japan to watch Junsu's musical. A couple hundred people were at the filming set of Yuchun's drama (T/N: SungKyunKwan Scandal). They're just as passionate on Twitter or online, continuing to wait for us.
Junsu: Because of everyone’s passion, it’s sometimes difficult to bear, so I really wanted to go. Hopefully we will be able to meet everyone, and thank you.

—–Does it feel any different now compared to before when you had activities in Japan?

Junsu: There isn’t actually that big of a difference. Having activities in Japan is important, so I felt like I needed to work hard. It’s the same now as it was before.
Yuchun: There isn’t anything particular, only that it would be great if we could have activities like the ones before now. But because of numerous reasons, we are unable to. I really want to go back to Japan for a concert tour. There are many activities other than concerts, so I want to create more chance to meet everyone.

—–Because of your fans’ support, you can’t give up. Last year, you were not only in Korea but also the U.S. What plans do you have for the future?

Jejung: There aren’t any specific plans yet. We’ll be having a worldwide tour starting April, so we’ll probably start planning after that.

—–Jejung will take on the role of the director of this time’s worldwide tour right?

Jejung: Ah yes! Basically it’s coming up with ideas for performance content and take part in the process planning. Basing off of last year’s Korean concert, the songs will increase, performance details will change, and the song order will be different from before. It would be great if it turns out well.

—–Everyone has probably been skiing or on family vacations, so your personal lives are also substantially rich with activities. Do you have the urge to complete everything you want to do in one go?

Junsu: Yeah.
Yuchun: Hmm, I don’t think too much about that, but maybe when I’m like “Let’s try it out!” I would want to go and do it.

—–When you do feel the most happy?

Yuchun: Everyday. I feel happy every day. Recently, I have time to go out and eat with my family, so being able to do that with such ease makes me more confident.
Junsu: For me, I feel happy through many things. But if I stand on stage and sing, that’s the best for me. That is what makes me the most happiest. I want to stand on many different stages and sing, including Japan’s. That is where I am able to feel completely blissful.

—–Last year on New Year’s Eve, Yuchun received the ‘KBS Drama Awards – Best Newcomer’ award. The three of you also sang the OST ‘Chajatta’ for Yuchun’s drama.

Yuchun: Yes, for the first time.
Junsu: Last year we sang on television for the first time. It was also the last time (laughs).

—–How did it feel?

Junsu: It felt peculiar. But we were of course truly happy. However, I felt a little lonely when I realized that this one single performance made me so happy. It was a day to celebrate Yuchun, so we could only look on the bright side of things. As an artist, standing on stage isn’t ‘a normal thing’, but a ‘really important thing’. I kept on repeating that to myself. It was really significant to all three of us. After experiencing these things, it honestly felt like I’ve become a mature adult compared to the year before.
Jejung: Things that were expected suddenly wasn’t natural anymore.
Junsu: Even though it was a tough period, because of our fans’ support, the three of us need to remember never ever to give up (laughs).

—–What kind of girl do you like?

(T/N: From now on it's just Jejung's interview)

A girl who can act coquettishly. I like those types of women.

—–If you date me, these good things will happen…

Kind of like a self-promotional tactic? I can do all the housework.

—–Then what about the laundry and cleaning up?

That can be divvied up (laughs). In terms of cooking, don’t worry, I will do it! I can make it really delicious!

—–Are there any changes in the kind of girl you like from before?

Pretty hands, pretty feet. That hasn’t changed. But recently, if her butt is cute… if you ask me what type… hahahahaaa!! It’s hard to explain~ Also I like girls who will stick really close to me when we’re walking on the road and flirts with me.

—–What’s the biggest change in you this year?

I think all three of us are the same. From the outside, we seem much more relaxed right? But on the inside we’re not that relaxed at all. It’s hard to express it in words. The most important thing right now is our level of drive and spirit.

—–Then… what changes would you have when you find a girlfriend?

Right now, I’m in a completely ‘no girlfriend’ status. But I’m actually pretty easy to read. Normally I would frequently say “Ahhh I really want a girlfriend”. But if I have one, I would look somewhere else and reply “Ahh, not really”. Rather than saying I’m not natural, I just can’t lie well enough.

*A little story regarding 3hree Voices II DVD*

First limited edition, includes artist/writer Nagai Hiroshi essay booklet. The three members felt that the quotes section resonated with them intimately. The DVD's structure will build off of this article as support.

*Quotes from JYJ*

"Compared to the past, it feels much more relaxing now. But there's still a while away from complete relaxation." - Jejung
"Basically, I really want to hold a concert in Japan. I hope there'll be opportunities to meet everyone." - Yuchun
"The phrase that I've always liked is 'positively moving forward'. We will succeed as long as we work hard." - Junsu

*What's the result of their 'happy time' during filming break?*

Yuchun, who wrote JYJ, decorated it with waves before signing his autograph. Seeing that, Junsu added eyes and a tail. Jejung then drew some backbones, making it look like a fish.

*Tidbits on-set*
During the photoshoot, Junsu's singing will frequently fill the air. It's not a random humming, but a complete song with lyrics. Sometimes it'll weave and overlap with Jejung's clear voice, creating the most beautiful harmonies. Yuchun just sits to the side, happily smiling and laughing at the two while drinking tea. Under such wonderful and pleasant conditions, we continued to work.
