Popular group JYJ received a notice today that their concert appearance has been cancelled without prior warning. The concert they were schedule to appear in is the ‘KBS Special Live Show Supporting Jeju’s 7 Wonders Nomination’ that is to be held on the 20th.
CEO Baek Chang Joo of C-JeS Entertainment stated, “We suddenly received the notice today(16th) and even I don’t know the reason behind the cancellation.” JYJ have been active as honorary ambassadors for Jeju’s 7 Wonders Nomination for the past month. They’ve been quite active, singing a logo song and recording videos, asking fans to vote for Jeju. This upcoming performance was meant to be another promotional activity for them as honorary ambassadors.
In a phone conversation with ‘OhmyNews’, one of JYJ’s public relations representatives stated, “We’ve already received the cue sheet for the performance and bought plane tickets as well,” and “We are taken aback by this cancellation as JYJ rescheduled other activities to make room for the performance, thinking of the event as a duty to their nation, regardless of the fact that the members are very busy right now because of activities such as the two members’ filming schedules for their dramas.” He continued to say, “We are frustrated because it feels like JYJ’s scarcity and their fandom’s powerful influence has been used and thrown aside.”
This representative continued to raise controversies over the issue by stating, “The manager who talked to KBS was told, ‘The event might become impossible if JYJ appear.’” JYJ have had restrictions placed on their activities in the entertainment industry since their legal dispute with their former entertainment agency began, unable to appear on variety shows of the three main broadcasting companies of Korea.
Currently, JYJ and their representatives are waiting for the reason why the group’s performance has been cancelled. On the 16th, C-JeS Entertainment posted an official notice on their homepage that said, “We ask for your understanding of our situation of having to notify the fans, who have been waiting for this performance, of the sudden cancellation, and we will post another notice as soon as possible once we have confirmed the details behind the situation.”
As Jeju press, such as ‘The Sound of Jeju’ and ‘Jeju Daily’, have already reported JYJ’s performance on the 20th, KBS’ move to prohibit JYJ’s appearance is expected to have a great impact in the industry.
CEO Baek Chang Joo stated, “We will post another official notice as soon as possible as there are fans who have already purchased plane tickets to Jeju, and please look out for further updates on the issue.”
Jeju Island’s Seven Natural Wonders of the World industry is an event sponsored by the ‘New 7 Wonders’ Foundation and has been controversial in terms of the foundation’s identity as well as the industry’s economic effect.
Voting for the Seven Natural Wonders of the World will end on November 1st.
